MCI's Third Eye Care Outreach

Dr. Pam Chua from Blind Resources, Dr. Minda Rodriguez, two ophthalmology students Mary Yu and Gizelle Rodriguez, Mindanao Times Editor-in-Chief Amalia B. Cabusao, and Attorney Susan Cariaga donated eye care service to people of Magtuod, Maa, in Davao City, along with a team of MCI college students organized through Minority Care International Students Association. This is Mindanao Times Editor-in-Chief Amalia B. Cabusao second time to donate eye care service through MCI. MCI extends its thanks to Dr. Chua, Dr. Rodriguez, Ms. Amy, Attorney Cariaga, Mary Yu, Gizelle Rodriquez, and social work students from the University of Mindanao, Pearl Joy B. Bayanon, Irene Serafica, Cyla Mae Manumba, Floreluz Nabuya, Judy Correos, as well as MCI Student Association for their amazing work. MCI’s goal for this project is to provide eyeglasses to improve vision and to give free eye check-ups to economically struggling communities. MCI distributed another 128 eyeglasses to the Magtuod community and gave eye check-ups for more than 165 people, all of whom were adults. It was a whole day event. At the same MCI alumni Jerwin Capuras, Jul Nurulaji, Anidah Macadato, and Arhly Bereber, all registered nurses and Charles Odal, a MCI scholar in his fourth year in Medical Technology also gave free blood pressure screening for the community. Many of the people who received the free eye check-ups and eyeglasses are very happy because they can see very well as they read. The eye care clinic is a project for students to practice compassionate servanthood, one that draws all groups of people to receive eye exams and free eyeglasses. This was a great project for our students who enjoyed serving to fulfill this community need. Thank you Restoring Vision.
