MCI Board member Dr. Kyle Wilkison was honored today as the Piper Professor of the Year for 2014. This honor is presented annually by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation to professors for superior teaching at a Texas college or university. This year only ten professors from Texas received the award. Dr. Wilkison holds a doctorate in history from Vanderbilt University, an M.A. in history from Texas A&M-Commerce as well as a B.A. in history with highest honors. His publications range from articles in peer edited journals, to academic book reviews and in-depth, analytic histories of the rural South. His book Sharecroppers, Yeomen, and Socialism received the Texas Historical Commission's prestigious Fehrenbacher Award. Dr. Wilkison has been a MCI Board member since 2007.
